Traveling with children to South Asia is not only possible but incredibly rewarding! As a travel professional, I am often out exploring the Indian subcontinent and beyond. When possible, my three children accompany me on trips abroad. From staying healthy to scheduling, here are my tips for comfortably exploring South Asia as a family.
Goa is known as a tropical paradise on India's western shores. Settled by the Portuguese in the 15th century, the region intricately integrates European heritage and Indian traditions. Endless beaches, spice plantations, and adventure activities famously attract travelers from around the globe.
As South Asia travel specialists, it is our job and our passion to explore the hidden trails. For many years, our teams have given travelers the opportunity to have a truly authentic and sustainable travel experience in the great outdoors. We have met the needs of travelers with a passion for indigenous customs and culture, charming hospitality, flavorsome and traditional cooking, stimulating ethnic art, and intriguing architecture.
The Tiger Express is off to a "roaring" start! India's newest semi-luxury train offers 6 day/5 night packages from Delhi to Bandhavgarh and Kanha national parks. (Kanha is also included in Sodha Travel's popular Jungle Book itinerary.) Named for the most notable resident of the parks, Tiger Express is the first wildlife circuit collaboration between the Indian Railways and Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC).
Tour guides can be a valuable part of a journey. Their expertise, connections, and advocacy can bridge the gap between what a traveler sees and what a traveler experiences. On the surface they often appear calm, friendly, and patient - answering endless questions, assuring the water is safe to drink, and quenching the thirst for knowledge and excitement in a foreign land. But have you ever wondered what your tour guide is really thinking?
Inspired by Rudyard Kipling's book of the same name, The Jungle Book has been adapted once again for the big screen. The plot follows Mowgli, a feral child raised in the Indian jungle by wolves, as his friends Bagheera the panther and Baloo the bear try to convince him into leaving the jungle before the evil tiger Shere Khan arrives. Pack your bags and go from reel life to real life on an action-adventure in the heart of India. Follow in the footsteps of Mowgli, Baloo, Bagheera, and Kaa as you recreate your own The Jungle Book itinerary.

During my recent trip to Thailand, I had the privilege to meet with John Gray, the owner of John Gray's Sea Canoe excursion. John has been highlighting natural history by sea kayak since 1983, and sea caving is just one educational venue in his line of conservation initiatives. The company motto says it all: We Don't Do Anything Normal. And John should be proud of that, as the excursion has been rated one of the "Top 25 Experiences in the World" by National Geographic.

Ranthambore National Park is one of the most filmed wildlife reserves in the world. Located in Rajasthan, it is also one of the largest national parks in Northern India. It was declared a wildlife sanctuary in 1955 and became a part of Project Tiger in 1973. As the park is relatively small, guests often view leopards, tigers, and jungle cats.
In the past few months, three incidents of rape and attempted rape in India have made international headlines and have unfortunately branded India as an unsafe destination for tourists. As appalling as the recent incidents have been, they are a gross misrepresentation of what most visitors experience - a very safe and friendly environment. India is a complex country with almost 1.3 billion people and even the most seasoned traveler can find the country to be a difficult place to navigate and integrate. This is why Sodha Travel partners with a destination management company with over 50 years of experience providing travelers with safe and enriching travel experiences.
From October 31 - November 18, the Sodha Travel team will be traveling in North India. In addition to negotiating contracts and meeting with vendors, we will be conducting property tours, visiting the most recent sites and restaurants, and researching all the latest and greatest activities for our clients. This year, our destinations will include Delhi, Jaipur, Rajsamand, Udaipur, Jodhpur, and Rishikesh. During our travels, we will be posting photos and journals on our blog and Sodha Travel social networks. We invite you to follow us on our journey as we celebrate Diwali and other regional festivals with the magnificent people of India.
