Like many of you, our team is anxious about the long-term impact of the crisis - medically, economically, and emotionally. Experts and analysts believe COVID-19 will cripple global tourism for years to come. With border restrictions and the cancellation of non-essential travel, hotels and flights are empty. Tour operators, guides, drivers, and others who work in the travel and aviation industries have lost their jobs. It's a time of uncertainty and unpredictability, and we understand the collective anxiety.
Aislyn Greene, a Senior Editor at AFAR, said it best: "We need information and thoughtful news, social distancing, and economic support for those hit hardest, plus more hospital beds and testing. But we also need comfort - and I'm so grateful for the solace provided by my co-workers...They remind me that we can connect to the world even when we're not roaming it and that, yes, we'll be able to travel again." Whether your support comes from family, friends, colleagues, or other community sources, let us remember that we are all in this together.
With so many of us in lockdown, it's important to practice self-care and unplug from the barrage of hourly news updates. Consider donating to global health and humanitarian organizations or community economic relief funds. Find ways to support local businesses. Continue to have hope and plant seeds of inspiration. As one of our clients wrote to us earlier this week, "It may be stormy now, but it won't rain forever." The world will be waiting to welcome you when the storm passes.
