Spotlight: Ganesh Chaturthi

September 1: Ganesh Chaturthi is the birthday celebration of the Hindu Lord Ganesha, the son of Shiva and Parvati. The festival, also known as Ganesh Jayanti, Vinayaka Chaturthi, or Utsav, lasts 10-11 days with the largest spectacle on the final day. Though celebrated all over India, it is most elaborate in the western and southern regions of the country. Ganesha is perhaps the most recognized deity in Hinduism and widely worshipped as the god of prosperity and good fortune.

Client Question: Site Closures

"I am traveling to Delhi next month and want to visit a few sites independently. Unfortunately, the internet and guide books have contrasting information on what days certain landmarks are closed. What information can you provide? "

Daniel
California

Answer:

The National Museum, Red Fort, Baha'i House of Worship (Lotus Temple) and Akshardham Temple are closed every Monday. Also, Connaught Place and Chandni Chowk markets are closed every Sunday. Most other sites, including Raj Ghat, Qutub Minar, Birla Temple, and Humayun's Tomb, are open every day. Please also note that some sites may be closed on national and regional holidays.
