A Note from Allison Perhaps it is not surprising that when I visit a bookstore, I gravitate to two sections: Travel Journals and South Asia. Recently, I spent time perusing at Powell's Books in Portland and came across some interesting titles related to love, historical frameworks, family experiences, cultural complexities, and of course, travel. Here are a few of my finds, and be sure to continue sending your reading recommendations!
The Idea of India - Sunil Khilnani Happy Reading, Allison Sodha, DS

Happy Independence Day, India! August 15th is India's Independence Day to commemorate its birth as a sovereign nation and independence from British rule in 1947. To all who celebrate, Happy Independence Day!
Spotlight: Samode Haveli ![]() One of our favorite properties in Jaipur, Rajasthan is the Samode Haveli, a regal residence that was converted to a 4-star heritage hotel. The haveli was built over 175 years ago as the manor house for the royal family. The former royal apartments are now 39 rooms and suites that reflect the intricate history and Rajasthani culture. The private balconies and courtyards overlook the fountains, swimming pool, and gardens of the property. Conde Nast Traveler once wrote, "What makes this place so memorable is the sense that it is lived in and loved by the people whose ancestors built it." During your next visit to Jaipur, we encourage you to visit Samode Haveli, either for an overnight stay or to enjoy afternoon tea in the Veranda Lounge.
"I just returned from Nepal and Northern India, and I thank you for coordinating an exciting adventure tour. It was a thrill to trek, raft, and climb in a beautiful place so different than home. The guides were fantastic and I felt taken care of in such remote destinations. Awesome job, you know your stuff."
