The Sodha Traveler
April 2011

A Note from Allison

Congratulations to Team India, winners of the 2011 Cricket World Cup! Last week was certainly exciting, first with the India vs. Pakistan semi-final match. After India was victorious, and fans celebrated in the streets for hours, the joy turned to anticipation for the final match against Sri Lanka. Then, in the city of Mumbai, the team went on to win their first World Cup since 1983. India is also the first team to ever win a World Cup on home ground!

In India, cricket is more than a game. It is a national pastime. This win is not just for the team, but for the entire country. As my husband (somewhat) jokingly said after the match, "I am now a World Champion."

Go India!

Airline Passenger Data

A reminder to all travelers: Since November 2010, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) requires all airline passengers to provide Secure Flight Passenger Data when confirming a reservation. This information includes the full name as appearing on government issued identification, date of birth, and gender. According to the TSA, the data "enhances aviation security and more effectively facilitates air travel for passengers." Also, for international ticketing, many airlines now require the passport details of the traveler at the time of booking.

Spotlight: Auroville

Located 10 km outside of Pondicherry in Tamil Nadu, Auroville is a universal township whose residents from all over the world live in peace and progressive harmony. Presently, Auroville is recognized as the first and only internationally endorsed ongoing experiment in human unity and transformation of consciousness, also developing sustainable living and the future cultural, environmental, social and spiritual needs of mankind. For this reason, many travelers -regardless of religious background or affiliation -ask to include Auroville in their itinerary. Though much of the town is open to residents only, guests can visit the information center and walk to the Peace Area that features the matrimandir, a symbolic golden sphere located in the center of the community. For longer stays, basic guest house accommodations can also be reserved. For more information, please visit the official Auroville page or ask a Sodha Travel representive.

"We just returned from two weeks on the Golden Experience and Eastern Odyssey tours. Sodha Travel and their representatives in India were absolutely wonderful. We learned so much, and the itinerary went off without a hitch! India is a marvelous and diverse country, and our guides were able to bring the historic sites to life. Our only regret is that we couldn't spend more time in each place. The hotel staffs, guides, and drivers were always courteous, helpful and informative. I hope that I will be able to plan another adventure in India with Sodha Travel."
