Western Paradise
Goa has notably been called The Pearl of the Orient and India’s Paradise. Settled by the Portuguese in the 15th century, Goa intricately integrates European heritage and Indian traditions. Together with an introductory tour of Mumbai, experience an oasis on India’s Western shores. Arrival (evening): Mumbai Namaste. Welcome to India! Arrive at Mumbai International airport. You will be met by our representative and transferred to your hotel. Mumbai, formerly Bombay, is often considered the commercial and entertainment capital of India. The city also houses India’s Hindi film and television industry, affectionately termed as Bollywood. Mumbai is the most populated city in India and attracts visitors and residents from all over the world. Overnight at the hotel.
Day 1: Mumbai After breakfast, take a morning excursion to Elephanta Cave Island and view magnificent ancient sculptures. In the afternoon, visit the notable attractions of Mumbai: Dhobi Ghat, Crawford Market, Marine Drive and the old mansions in the Colaba area. Overnight in Mumbai.
Day 2: Mumbai—Goa This morning, fly to Goa. Famous for its beaches, Goa is visited by hundreds of thousands of international and domestic tourists each year. Because Portuguese merchants settled in Goa in the 15th century, the city has a distinctive Western influence. Goa provides a unique cultural integration of Indian and European heritage. Afternoon at leisure to explore the town or relax on the beach. Overnight in Goa.
Day 3: Goa After breakfast, enjoy a tour of Panjim. Panjim is the capital of Goa and houses beautiful churches and cathedrals. Visit the Basilica of Bom Jesus: built in the sixteenth century, the basilica houses the body of Saint Francis Xavier. Enclosed in a glass casket, it remains a mystery how the body has resisted excessive decay. In the afternoon, take a boat cruise on the Mandovi river. Overnight in Goa.
Days 4—6: Goa Three magnificent days at leisure in Goa. Relax on the pristine beaches, shop in the vibrant bazaars, dine and dance on the white sand shores, discover the hidden European pastry shops, hike the forests, and discover the local flavor of this unique paradise. We recommend sampling the many restaurants along the beaches that provide private moonlit dining on the shores. The seafood is delicious and incorporates Indian spices to enhance the flavor. If interested, additional excursions and/or tours can be arranged.
Day 7: Goa—Mumbai Enjoy your final morning in Goa. Later, fly to Mumbai. Upon arrival you will be transferred to your hotel. Overnight in Mumbai.
