Mumbai Marathon/Half-Marathon and Kerala Tour

The Mumbai Marathon/Half-Marathon is an exciting international event, hosting participants from around the world. The course winds through the bustling streets of Mumbai, India's largest city that incorporates the ancient with the modern. Following the event, fly to Kerala and soak up the coastal scenery. Stay overnight on a houseboat in the backwaters of Alleppey and explore the beach villages in Mararikulam. Jan 13: Arrival
Namaste. Welcome to India! Arrive at Mumbai International airport. Optional airport transfers are available.

Mumbai, formerly Bombay, is considered the financial and entertainment capital of India. The city also houses India’s Hindi film and television industry, affectionately termed Bollywood. Mumbai is the most populated city in India and attracts visitors and residents from all over the world. Overnight in Mumbai. Hotel: Marine Plaza

Jan 14: Mumbai
Morning at leisure to rest after your journey. In the afternoon, attend a pre-race orientation and drive the race route. Evening at leisure and overnight in Mumbai.

Jan 15: Mumbai
Day at leisure to rest before the marathon/half-marathon. In the evening, enjoy a pre-race dinner. Overnight in Mumbai.

Jan 16: Race Day!
In the early morning, meet in the lobby and transfer to the race venue. Anticipated start times are as follows and subject to change:

6.45 a.m. Marathon (42.195 km)
  • Runner’s criteria – All marathon runners confirmed in the Veteran, Senior Veteran or Super Veteran age categories.
  • Runner’s criteria – All marathon runners in the Open category not competing for prize money.
  • 7.40 a.m. Marathon (42.195 km)
  • Runner’s criteria – All elite marathon runners competing for prize money in the OPEN category only.
  • Later, return to the hotel. Afternoon at leisure and overnight in Mumbai.

    Jan 17: Mumbai
    Today, enjoy a full day tour of Mumbai. In the morning, visit the Elephanta Caves, an intricate rock-cut temple complex on Gharapuri Island, located one hour by boat across Mumbai Harbor. Later, tour the Prince of Wales Museum, Jain Temples, and Mani Bhavan, the house where Mahatma Gandhi used to stay during his visits to Bombay. Drive past Kamla Nehru Park and Hanging Gardens, situated on the slope of Malabar Hill and offering a panoramic view of Marine Drive and Chowpatty Beach. Evening at leisure and overnight in Mumbai.

    Jan 18: Mumbai - Mararikulam
    After breakfast, transfer to the airport for your flight to Cochin, Kerala. Upon arrival, transfer to your resort in Mararikulam. Mararikulam is a picturesque fishing village by the Arabian Sea. The village has a host of sandy beaches fringed by coconut palms, ideal to stroll around, enjoy the waves and interact with the locals. Afternoon at leisure to soak up the splendid coastal scenery of Mararikulam. Hotel: Marari Beach Resort

    Jan 19: Mararikulam
    Day at leisure to explore the villages, take a yoga class, or relax on the sandy beaches. You may also elect to visit the spa for a recovery massage or other Ayurvedic treatment. Overnight in Mararikulam.

    Jan 20: Mararikulam - Alleppey
    After breakfast, drive to Alleppey (45 minutes) and board your houseboat. Spend the day leisurely cruising the beautiful and enchanting Keralan backwaters. A backwater comprises of a unique web of rivers, lakes, bays, lagoons and canals extending into the villages and towns. The kettuvallam or ‘boat with knots’ is held together with coir knots only - not a single nail is used during the construction. Meals are prepared on board by your private chef while you observe the untouched Keralan life. Overnight on the houseboat.

    Jan 21: Alleppey– Cochin and Departure
    In the morning, disembark your houseboat and drive to Cochin. In the afternoon, proceed for half day tour of the city visiting the Dutch Palace, which has some of India’s most beautiful murals, the Jewish Synagogue in the heart of Jew Town and the cantilevered Chinese fishing nets. Also visit St. Francis Church, where Vasco da Gama was originally buried, and the Santa Cruz Church with its pastel colored interior and carved wooden panels.

    In the evening, transfer to the airport for your flight to Mumbai. Upon arrival, transfer to the international terminal for your return flight home. Bon Voyage!

    Airfare
    We understand that our clients deserve options when it comes to air travel. Many want to use air miles, choose the airline and/or upgrade class of service. Some also extend their travels before or after the tour, either visiting other regions of India or taking a quick flight to Nepal, Bhutan or Sri Lanka. For this reason, our Mumbai Marathon/Half-Marathon and Kerala tour is available with and without airfare.

    A group airfare quote from New York City – Mumbai will be provided after the number of travelers has been finalized. The departure date from NYC will be January 12, 2011 and the return date will be January 22, 2011. The group airfare cost will include roundtrip airport transfers in Mumbai.
